Welcome

Welcome to Blue Cockatoo Records, an independent record company for musicians by musicians.

We are a small music production company located in Sydney’s Hills District. We cater for individualistic or upcoming artists by providing the opportunity to collaborate, a sonic space to record in, quality equipment to capture your unique brand of music, and enthusiastic production advice so that the world can hear you better.

Once it is laid down, we can mix and master your creation to the highest production quality on the Blue Cockatoo Records label… for you to market your music where and however you see fit. At BCR, we love the musical passion expressed by amateurs, and understand that every successful artist once started out as somebody that nobody ever heard of. We’d love to provide you with the soundtrack to give you that break.

We recognize the depth of untapped talent in musicians who never had the time or opportunity to collaborate in an interactive recording environment. To us, the music is everything…real, original music played with wooden and brass instruments. If you strive to be another Ed S or Taylor S, then there are big, expensive studios to help you with that. Our mission is simple yet profound: to discover, nurture, and elevate the voices of lesser-known artists who dare to push boundaries and redefine the very fabric of music.

How We Work

Do you have a project in mind, a concept album or collection of songs that needs to be properly recorded and produced for commercial release?

Think of Blue Cockatoo Records as the incubator for that creativity.

We can help you to make this a reality by providing production advice, suggestions for the arrangement, contributing instrument tracks for your recording and help to source complementary musicians to complete your creation.

Through our existing affiliations with APRA. AMCOS, the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia and other music right & collection agencies, we also look after the commercial and legal aspects of music creation, with no limitations on where you perform or promote your music.

Step 1. Contact us for an initial interview and project discussion (no cost, no obligation).

Step 2. Submit your creative ideas, concepts or demo via Dropbox to allow our producer and creative team to design the creative brief. You retain all the rights to all material submitted.

Step 3. We discuss and agree the creative scope of the project including timelines, production, post-production and publishing, and complete the necessary paperwork that protects your rights and ours.

Step 4. The creative process begins.

Some of Our Artists

The style of music we strive to promote is exemplified by the artists featured below, and we hope to be adding more artists of similar ilk to our catalog.

The New Australian Hymn Book is the debut album from Sydney band Hootch.

This genre-defying record is the result of a collaboration between vocalist Carly St Clair, multi-instrumentalist Chris van der Hoven and virtuoso guitarist Marc Zovaro, aided by a few select friends.

Starting out with modest expectations of commercial success and a respectful disregard for mainstream trends, the trio produced an album of music intending to sound like the music they have always wanted to make. As it turns out…they are not the only ones who thought this to be a good idea.

Zephyr Freeman’s debut album, Lost in Space, is an introspective testament to passion, loss and longing, and multiple lives lived with integrity.

Described by the artist as “an album I had to make –for myself more than anyone else.

It pays homage to  the range of acoustic and electric influences that shaped my musical vocabulary over a lifetime.”
